The journey towards sustainability – how can powder technology support the green transformation?

Abstract: The natural resources in the world are limited, yet economic activity is expected to double by 2050. There are huge incentives for rethinking existing production and consumption patterns: an increased focus on materials’ usage and circularity could give improved resource efficiency and significant reduction in the environmental footprint.

Volvo Group’s aim is to help customers reach net-zero green house gas emissions by 2050. This will be achieved by driving decarbonization of all aspects of operations, including sourcing, logistics, research and product development and production. To reach this, the way vehicles are designed, developed and manufactured need to be ‘reinvented’. In this transformation journey powder metallurgy – considered as a ‘green technology’ – could play a vital role, not only by a resource-efficient production and optimized design towards light components, but also the clear advantages in for instance repair and to prolong life of component should be addressed.

Mrs Annika Roos (Jernkontoret)
